I don’t really name my paintings, other than to identify them when talking about them.

Such is this one, Tivoli. Not named by me but the name stuck. Essentially it was a habitual painting at first, the kind of painting that comes out of painting to paint without any forethought. However through experimentation later in the process I began to discover a sort of alternative technique that would allow the painting to change intensity depending on the amount and style of light it received.


Early in the Process

Of course all painting are changed by light, but in some cases it seems possible to truly take advantage of changing light, say from a window where the weather and time greatly change the quality of light hitting the painting. 

So in this Tivoli was created. While not a fully refined technique, it certainly bares exploration.
