Earlier in the year I'd tests an action-style glazing painting process.
Since then I've been looking to push the process further with a deeper chromatic sketch painting. Usually I'd keep an open mind to process but this particular sketch painting required a bit of forethought. The reason being is that with glazing, each subsequent layer only reduced the overall brightness and if not careful, the painting could quickly become too dark to discern any detail. Thus I'd planned only 5 layers of action glazing as I wanted an overall feel for the technique for future reference.
The end results certainly wanted for more layers but given the emulsion choices it wasn't practical. Still, the idea seems to work and while there's a chance for a gimmicky look it likely can be avoided with more sensitive choices in layers. Still, something of this nature can become quite chaotic and I think for now will be put on the back burner of ideas.
