My studio is certainly progressing now, enough to have started painting.
Still I’m working on various sketch cards as it’s a nice simple process that ultimately takes a lot less time than painting oil on large format canvas. Today I decided to push the process a little by creating new types of marks. In this case I’m creating a simple, almost textural backing with pigments and then pressing a basic ink based shaped on top.
I think the results are interesting in that the two types of marks seem to relate to each other, albeit mostly in a figure/ground relationship. The weight of the black ink seems to have far more impact than I’d anticipated for a card that size (23x14cm). I’m wondering now if this whole process can be scaled up to something in the A2 size or larger?
