Airing out Reality

There’s a surprising amount of couples in art.

During a trip to Hamburg I was introduced to one such couple, Lillian Bassman and Paul Himmel. Himmel’s work in abstract photography really caught my eye as both a breaking a part of object and an almost esoteric ‘airing out’ of my eye’s reality.

This photograph is my own study in the tradition of Himmel’s work. While I did use various models to study his process (he used high fashion models) I opted for a self-portrait using everyday objects - bouncing them off of the construction of my own body.  The results were quite stimulating in my eyes and something only certain lenses can accurately create in his image.
